PROMISE officials say scholarship fund mirrors Vision Shared mission to raise West Virginia's educational standards
Policy-makers, economic stakeholders and citizens across West Virginia are working to improve the state's economy through implementation of the Vision Shared economic development plan. While the plan includes initiatives on several different fronts, one initiative is to raise the bar on education in West Virginia. Officials with the highly discussed PROMISE scholarship fund, now two months away from awarding its first series of merit-based scholarships to college-going West Virginians, say the fund represents one such effort to raise educational standards. These standards, they say, will be raised by increasing the college-going rate in West Virginia and creating a better and more educated work force.

Roundtable among several groups to support Governor's interest in potential funding for PDS educational initiative
The West Virginia Roundtable has voiced its support of Governor Wise's intention to seek funding for the Professional Development School (PDS) partnerships program. The Roundtable was one of several groups to support the Governor's funding interest from the Carnegie Corporation of New York. PDS partnerships have been established between West Virginia University and public elementary and secondary schools, as well as state colleges and universities with the financial support of the Benedum Foundation.

Executive Summary, Survey by the Center for Entrepreneurial Studies and Development
Executive Summary for "What We're Looking For: Business Defines Its Workforce Training Needs." The survey was conducted to identify training needs of West Virginia employers and offerings of training providers. The complete survey was released in July 2000. This document will serve a valuable purpose as the Intellectual Infrastructure Committee, and the Roundtable as a whole, strive to establish public policy to help meet the changing needs of employers, improve the structure of workforce training and create a better future for West Virginia.
