Community colleges serve as an access point to higher education for many low-income students. The largest source of federal grant aid for college students, Pell Grants provide low-income undergraduate students with up to $7,395 annually to cover educational expenses.

Community college students (46.4%) rely on Pell Grants more than students at four-year institutions (between 32% and 36%).
